Pivotal to the project was the heritage appreciation of the old tramway substation located on the site. Of eleven such substations built in the 1920s and 1930s, it remains as one of eight still standing. The new glass atrium structure to be built alongside its west elevation aims to showcase the existing heritage building to inside patrons, allowing people to admire the building from within the new Bar Lounge and externally from the courtyard dining on Annerley Rd.
